For the experienced members of the Griffith Croquet Club, they have the added challenge of mastering their strokes on an old, un-maintained bowling green.
The roughly eight members of active retirees are on the hunt for a lawn roller to help them improve the playing surface for their three games a week.
"Having the ground in this state makes the games just that little bit more interesting," joked Laurence Patterson, a retired farmer and regular member of the group.

"This being an old bowling green it's just the sort of surface we can play on, and it's the best place we've got to play at the moment," Dick Paul, member of the club said.
"We are looking for someone who would like to donate or loan us a turf roller to improve the surface here," Sue Fordham said.
The group were given a generous grant from Griffith City Council five years ago to get their club up and running and they said they are grateful for the support.
"We are really appreciative to Council for letting us use the site here," Mr Paul said.
The club gets together for three hours of competitive croquet three times a week and watching the group in action, there is no love lost when the first mallet swings.
"You don't have to bend as much which makes it easier on the body but it's also very tactical, it's a bit like a game of chess," Mrs Fordham said.
"You have to think not just about your ball but where the other players' balls are because you can knock them out of the way.
"So it's a bit of a thinking game as well as a physical game."
Anyone who may be interested in giving croquet a go can get in touch with the club via their Facebook page or through contacting Dick Paul on 0427 561 395. They meet Tuesday, Friday and Sunday morning from 7.30am at the old Exies bowling green beside the Tourist Information Centre on Jondaryan avenue.
