Providing bigger car spaces, more wheelchair access and better facilities for carers are just some of the things Griffith can do to become more inclusive to people living with disabilities, according to one local support service.

Earlier this month, Griffith City Council placed the 2017 Disability Inclusion Access Plan on exhibition and invited the community to make suggestions.
Council also stated they would be speaking directly with representatives from Griffith's disability support groups.
Speaking with The Area News, Griffith Post-School Options (GPSO) highlighted some of the potential improvements they will be suggesting to council.
According to GPSO, Griffith should provide "more spacious car parking" to ensure safety when people with disabilities are using hoists to exit and enter vehicles.
Also suggested was the construction of toilet blocks which include adult-sized changing tables and ceiling hoists.
GPSO said this would allow non-ambulant high needs people receive personal care without needing to "travel all the way home to have their needs met".

Other suggestions highlighted by GPSO included better facilities for carers of people with high needs during hospital stays, as people with disabilities may require specific support which cannot be provided by hospital staff.
It was also suggested every shop and venue in Griffith should be wheelchair accessible in the front entry and not just through a back door and that more disability friendly buses - with wheelchair access and lower entry steps - be put into rotation.
The reviewed Disability Inclusion Action Plan is expected to be brought before council by June 30.
