A state of the art Isuzu four wheel drive emergency rescue truck has been added to the hardware of this exemplary team and no expense has been spared.

"The whole truck comes fitted out with all the equipment we need for what we do here in the region," Griffith SES department rescue officer Anthony Hatch said.

For the crew in Griffith this means, flood rescues, construction and agricultural rescues, car accidents, storm operations and vertical rescues, and not to mention the coffee machine and jet kettle for those two in the morning call outs.

"With the equipment on this truck, it's an enhancement from what was previously being used. This truck is a lot more capable," Mr Hatch said.

"The equipment on board is state of the art equipment, the stuff that's just coming in to Australia, and we've been lucky enough to get it into a regional area."

The traditional generator powered tools have now been replaced with battery technology said Mr Hatch, everything is powered by 240 volt capacity and 15 batteries, but that's only the beginning.

"There is an auto start feature which means that the truck will never allow the batteries to go flat, it will start itself up to charge the batteries and then turn off once charged," he said.

And it's not only available for use in the Griffith shire area, the unit can also respond to other units around the area like Leeton, Narrandera, Hillston or Hay and be there to assist with the capabilities of the truck.

"This truck has got extra specialist equipment for this area," Mr hatch said.

"It's capable of doing storm damage, flood response, vertical rescue and it has life jackets and storage compartments for something called an Ark Angel which is an inflatable rescue boat.

"We are one of the most active units in our zone. Last year, in the calendar year of 2020 we had 81 call outs. That's quite above average."
