Bonnie Browne and Alec Pisan will add another feather to their caps when they assist with the direction of the Griffith Youth Theatre Troupe February. Both young creatives have already been a regular fixture of theatre productions past and present and are looking forward to the challenge of inspiring other young people to love theatre.
"I'm excited, I think it will be good to work with kids who want to learn drama," Miss Browne, who has performed in every community production since 2015, as well as directing the successful radio theatre show Vintage Voices in 2020.
"I'm just really excited to have more drama in my life again because after you leave school there's not a whole lot of opportunity particularly in such a rural community," Alec Pisan, who will be shining in two parts in Leeton's upcoming Henry V starring Jake Speer.
Bonnie Owen has been at the helm of the troupe since its inception four years ago but is excited to shine the spotlight on its two new mentors saying it will be a tremendous opportunity to grow their skill set.
"It's amazing what you learn when you are not on stage and you're directing," she said.
"These two have been on stage, doing their thing and they are fabulous at it but I'm really hoping this year they get this rich and ingrained idea of theatre that they can then take with them for the future.
"I'm so excited for them to start because they are going to bring something to it that I don't have. I think the current students need a change."
The seniors group classes will start February 9, juniors February 24 and enrollments for both are open now at the Griffith Regional Theatre website.
"It is such an amazing opportunity not only for kids interested in theatre but also the benefits in terms of their emotional development, speech, confidence and social interaction are great," Ms Owen said.
"The difference between when they start compared to after they've been doing it a couple of terms just blows my mind."
