Member for Murray Helen Dalton and Nationals MLC Wes Fang have both hit out at each other regarding the NSW government's roll out of the Cooler Classrooms program.
In a letter to Mr Fang, Ms Dalton questioned where the work was up to given the hot summer temperatures and the return to school. In the Murray electorate, 59 schools are slated to receive an air-conditioning upgrade.
According to the government, in late 2020 four schools - Deniliquin High School, Deniliquin South Public School, Whitton-Murrami Public School and Gol Gol Public School - had received the new systems.
However, Mrs Dalton wanted to know where and when the rest would be completed, given the hot weather that is expected upon students return to school.
"When will each of the 55 remaining schools receive their air-conditioning systems," Mrs Dalton wrote.
IN OTHER NEWS:
According to the government, the project is being rolled out over five years.
In a reply letter to Mrs Dalton, Mr Fang appeared to be fed up with the apparent ongoing questioning from Mrs Dalton of the program.
"I'll be frank, other local members have looked to work with the Minister and her department to assist the rollout in their seats," he wrote.
"The most you (Mrs Dalton) seem to do is send angry letters and post on social media; by failing to make proper representations to the Minister and department, you fail your constituents.
"Perhaps you could try a new approach and look to work with the Minister and her department on the rollout. It's a bit more work than sending a one page letter, but you might actually achieve something for your electorate by doing it."
Mr Fang's office has also provided The Irrigator with an updated list of where the project is up to.
Several more schools in the Murray electorate have been added to the complete list, including Balranald Central School, Buronga Public School, Gralee Public School, Griffith Public School, Hay Public School, Hay Memorial Public School, Hillston Central School, Leeton High School, Leeton Public School, Pooncarie Public School, Wamoon Public School and Yoogali Public School.
Several other schools were identified as having sufficient air-conditioning systems and did not require work as part of the program.
Others were in the design phase of the program, out to tender or under construction.
Murrumbidgee Regional High School in Griffith is on hold pending confirmation of the use of teaching spaces as part of the upgrade works.
This requires Public Works Advisory to revisit the scope of the project to ensure all eligible learning spaces are included.
