The self-described 'easy going' wine making trio at Dee Vines has added Wine of the Year by Winestate Magazine for The Drover pinot grigio, in a category that recognises the best value wine under 20 dollars.
"It feels good, especially winning for the pinot grigio," wine maker at Dee Vine Estate Moreno Chiappin said.
"It's a six dollar bottle of wine. Our nearest competition, which came second was twenty bucks.
"We are proud that we've produced a product that our peers recognise is a good wine."
The heat of 2020's vintage makes receiving this award even more satisfying said Danisa Calderon and Danny Toaldo who make up the remainder of the wine making team at Dee Vine.
"It was a hot vintage which made it quite difficult," Mr Toaldo said.
"It makes this award quite remarkable for us being able to maintain the quality and achieve the standard from previous years." Mr Chiappin added.
A variety that's become a bit more popular since the early 2000's, The Drover's pinot grigio is an easy drinking wine that pairs great with a creamy pasta or cheese and cracker board said the team.
"It's something different compared to chardonnay or other varieties," Mr Chiappin said.
So far the outlook is positive for this year's vintage said Mr Toaldo, who is preparing to kick start their picking from next week.
"It's looking a lot cooler, should be some good whites this year," Mr Toaldo said.
"It's looking ideal so the quality should be a lot better than last year we're thinking at this stage.
"Hopefully the weather will hold out for us."
