The updated regulations came into effect on Tuesday, January 12, following new national guidelines put in place by the Federal Government.

The new rules state anyone over the age of 12 must wear a face mask while indoors at an airport, and while on domestic flights, including during take-off and landing.

In response to the new guidelines, Griffith City Council announced they would be providing free disposable masks at the airport to those who forget their own.

Council's Director of Sustainable Development, Phil King, said this was to ensure consistensy in the fight to prevent the spread of the virus.

He said regional airports have an important role to play in protecting the country from COVID-19.

"Measures put in place at a domestic airport to prevent the potential spread of COVID, will reduce the risk of the virus spreading through a regional area such as Griffith," he said.

Visitors to the airport are also asked to sign in using the QR Code system, and to use the sanitiser station set up at the entrance, though these are not mandatory.
