Price found himself sitting in first heading into the rest day on Saturday but a seventh-place finish on stage seven the following day saw him lose his two-minute lead at the top the fall to second.
The two-time champion had to perform some 'bush mechanic' repairs with several cable ties on his rear tire heading into the eighth stage.
Despite the difficulty, the Hilston local a second-place finish as he came in a minute and five seconds behind leader Jose Ignacio Cornejo Florimo from Chile which saw the Chilean slightly extend his lead of Price.
"Today (Monday) I tried to fix as much as I could, and when I got to refuel at 229km I saw I still had a solo zip tie on!" he said on social media.
"The rest had come off, but I just tried to keep momentum, not accelerate too hard and ride smart.
"I lost some time, but I didn't think I would make it to the finish, let alone 2nd in stage and still be 2nd overall! It's good to see the Michelin Motorcycle tyre can get me to the finish line even with a big gash in it."
