The Diggers side won the toss and looked to make a strong start with Mark Favell and Paresh Patil at the crease.
The opening pair were able to put on 23 before Patil (4), and Trevor Richards (0) fell to the bowling of Alex Flood in successive deliveries, and while Tom Valeri saw off the hat-trick ball it was a short-lived reprieve as Favell (13) was caught behind off the bowling of Mitch Williams-Hedges (13) three overs later.
Valeri was joined by Matt Crack, and with plenty of overs in front of them, they looked to push their side towards a competitive total.
Over the next 11 overs, Crack and Valeri were able to put on 32 runs before Crack became the first to fall to the bowling of Tim Rand with the score on 69.
Kyle Bennett joined Valeri out in the middle, and the pair were able to add 20 runs before Rand struck again when Bennett (4) was caught by Teei Piawi.
When Damien Walker was able to make the crucial breakthrough of Valeri (35) it spelled the beginning of the end of the Diggers side. Ben Fattore (10) tried to add some late runs, but the bowling of Tim Rand (5/23) and Walker (2/32) were able to claim the remaining wickets to see Diggers bowled out for 119 in the 36th over.
Trevor Richards was able to make a breakthrough in the 7th over when he was able to trap Jake Rand (1) in front, but the Cougars were able to find their footing.
Williams-Hedges and Haydn Pascoe were able to put on 47 runs for the second wicket before Mark Favell (1/28) was able to make the needed breakthrough with the dismissal of Williams-Hedges (21).
Tim Rand (3) looked to occupy the crease along with Pascoe with plenty of time on the side of the Cougars, but he departed when he was caught by Ash Verhagen off the bowling of Bennett (1/39).
Angus Boulton joined his skipper out in the middle with their side needing 51 runs with 23.2 over remaining, but it looked as if the Cougars quicker.
Pascoe (62) was able to post his third straight fifty and fourth of the season as he and Boulton (20*) were able to chase down the remaining runs with 18.4 overs remaining.
