From New Year's Eve right through until January 4, skies overhead in the Leeton and Griffith area were dark and moody.
Griffith had some hail fall in the afternoon on New Year's Eve, but despite the dark clouds rolling in from the city towards Griffith, there was only some bluster and little rain on that day.
The first weekend of the new year had much of the same, dark clouds that threatened to unleash at any moment with a torrential downpour, making it feel very coastal.
Griffith has recorded more rain over consistent days compared to Leeton, with 1.6mm falling on New Year's Day, 1.2mm on January 2, 1.4mm on January 3, 10mm on January 4 and 2.4mm to 9am on January 5.
However, Leeton's total rain has been more with bigger spurts of rain over less days.
No rain was recorded in Leeton on January 1 or 2, but 7.4mm fell on January 3, 4.6mm on January 4 and 6mm to 9am on January 5.
The rain has meant muggy conditions throughout the region, but temperatures have been hovering in the late 20s to early 30s.
For the rest of the week, residents in Leeton can expect the mercury to start climbing.
On Wednesday, the expected temperature is 30 degrees, 31 on Thursday and Friday, 32 on Saturday, 35 on Sunday and 36 on Monday to start off another week.
In Griffith, the predicted temperature on Wednesday is 29 degrees, 30 on Thursday, 31 on Friday, 33 Saturday, 34 Sunday and a warm 36 degrees to start off next week on Monday.
Apart from Wednesday where some rain is predicted for both Griffith and Leeton, the remaining days should be dry across the MIA.
