Fancy handcrafted knick knacks and browsing through trinkets and treasures? Griffith will be treated to some evening fun Thursday December 3 when the Greengecko Garden Centre hosts their first ever twilight markets. The Local Makers Market will be open from 5-8pm next Thursday night for people to browse, eat and perhaps get some of their Christmas shopping out of the way, all while supporting Griffith creators. Owners Lisa and Michael Taliano from the Greengecko have been supporters and advocates of the art community in Griffith for years, so when the opportunity presented itself this year to collaborate with another local business, the idea took off. "I've always wanted to do something like this but it was actually Luke Piccolo from Limone who offered me the opportunity to get it off the ground," Lisa Taliano said. "I want to provide encouragement for the art and craft makers in Griffith and show people that we do have an artistic community here. "I know they have an online presence but I wanted to start to solidify in people's mind that we have all these great creators here." Griffith restaurant Limone will be among the stalls on the night, offering a choice between wood roasted pork and vegetarian frittata rolls and salad options, as well as a coffee van. Around 25 stalls of local makers and community groups will be participating on the night, with one popular community project hoping to get more people contributing to its art installation. "We've got Isis Ronan coming in with the Up Lift Griffith project, so people can get involved in that," Mrs Taliano said. "Lisa approached me and said that she wanted to donate the gate takings towards the cause that I'm involved with," Marie Clarke said. People will have the opportunity to also sign a petition on the night to be presented to NSW parliament as part of Ms Clarke's campaign. MORE NEWS
