The Swans received a welcome boost with young gun Jack Rowston returning to the club after he moved to Melbourne at the end of last year.
The club is looking to fill the void left by the departures of leading players Jack and Lucas Conlan (Albury Tigers), two-time best and fairest Jordan Iudica (Canberra), midfielder Heath Northey and two-time Jim Quinn medallist Guy Orton (Coleambally).
Dreyer, a club life member who has plenty of experience coaching the Swans' juniors, was set to coach first grade alongside Will Griggs this year before Griffith opted not to play in 2020.
"When Will moved on they asked me again and we went through a plan and a coaching structure. It all sounded good and I'll have plenty of help and experience around me," Dreyer said.
"I've been on the phone to a lot of blokes already and everyone seems pretty keen after not playing footy this year.
"We've got Jack Rowston back from Melbourne where he was working, which is great. He's quality, he spent a fair bit of time at the Giants and played some NEAFL games, and injury (ACL) slowed him down a bit halfway through last year.
"I expect him to be keen to go again as he hasn't had much footy either."
Dreyer said his playing style will depend on the squad at his disposal as the Swans look to bounce back from consecutive grand final losses in 2018 and 2019.
"It will come down to personnel. We've lost some key position players and they're things we're going to have to nail down," he said.
"We're going to have a lot of young blokes and initially I want them to understand the commitment that's required, and the consistency.
"Then it's just looking at our group and working on a game plan that's going to suit. There's a lot of unknowns because we're going to be fairly young, but the upside is we've got a lot of them.
"That's not to say we're not trying to recruit still, we're still looking."
