The largest shearing shed still standing in Australia, Toganmain holds an extraordinary place in our region's history.
On Wednesday, 2 December, a community meeting will be held in Darlington Point so that locals from around the Riverina can get involved in helping to save the woolshed.
"Preserving an iconic building like Toganmain is so important because it's integral to the history of wool in Australia," Mr Sam Everingham, Committee member of Toganmain Woolshed Precinct Inc. said.
"At its peak, Toganmain employed hundreds of shearers, rouseabouts, cooks, wool classers, scourers and other staff.
"The purpose of this upcoming community meeting is to harness community goodwill so that we can save Toganmain and bring it back to its former glory."
All Riverina residents are invited to come along to the meeting and show their interest in this project and passion for their community.
"Over the past few years, we have received many offers to donate materials for Toganmain's restoration and some financial donations too. However, there has been no ownership transfer yet from the Paraway Pastoral Company, which means that we haven't been able to access government grants," Mr Everingham said.
"But with solid local community support, we will be able secure the transfer, save Toganmain and preserve its history for the future."
The community meeting will be held on Wednesday December 2 at 6pm at the Darlington Point Sports Club.
