It was the first full first grade game for the Diggers thanks to rain in October, which kept players off the field.
The Diggers posted 237 runs with the loss of seven wickets, with the Ex-Servicemens Eagles chasing it down, however, they finished at 229.
Trevor Richards spent over two hours facing the Eagles' bowling attack, posting 137 before caught out.
"I had a good day," Richards said.
Richards said thanks to the efforts of the rest of the team they were able to build small partnerships which helped build a big total for the Eagles to chase.
"It was a good effort, we had lots of nice little partnerships," he said.
Duane Ashcroft kept the pressure up on the Diggers taking four wickets.
Once the Eagles were sent into bat, Richards said the goal was to put the pressure on them.
"Luke Peruzzi and Danny Dossiter bowled really well early," Richards said.
"Kyle Bennett didn't start off well but we came back and bowled well in the second spell.
"Mark Favell came up, grabbed a couple of wickets and slowed down the run rate and put some pressure back on them."
The Diggers bowling kept many of the Eagles' players on small totals.
Marc Tucker was able to score 72 off 77 balls while Phil Burge had the next highest with 63, those efforts helped the Eagles get to 10/229.
Richards said there were a few things the Diggers could have done better to help seal the win.
"It's our first game of the year, it's just a case of going from there," he said.
"We have to work hard for the next few weeks and hopefully get a bit of form up and perform well."
Meanwhile, over at Hanwood Oval, Coro Club picked up their second win of the season.
Hanwood got off to a cracking start thanks to Luke Docherty (29 runs) and Oliver Bartter (28 runs) and at drinks they were two for 72.
"We pulled them back with some tight bowling," Coro captain Haydn Pascoe said.
"It was a pretty good fightback, they got off to a really good start."
Coro's Mitch William-Hedges and Alex Flood both took three wickets with Dean Bennett getting two.
Hanwood were all out for 130 after 39 overs and Coro were able to chase down the total within 30 overs.
Mitch William-Hedges scored 36 runs while Pascoe posted 80, not out.
"Mitch batted really well, he faced the new ball and batted within his ability which is good," Pascoe said.
