Passing Hanwood Public school Friday morning you were likely to see the Grim Reaper and the Tooth Fairy enjoying recess together. The school was buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm for this year's Halloween Parade with all students and staff getting into the scary spirit.

Due to COVID regulations the parade was squeezed into 15 minutes but students were undeterred, breaking out their best 'monster mash' dance moves class by class to the roaring applause of their friends.
A clear standout costume was 11 year old Harvir Rai who came up with the concept of his 'vending machine' costume all by himself.
"I made the structure myself but mum helped me paint it," Harvir said, adorned with chip packets.
"It's my last year at Hanwood so I just wanted to make the most of it and get dressed up.
Students spent a week converting their school's gymnasium into a haunted house complete with coffins and post apocalyptic classroom. Principal at Hanwood, Monica St Baker said the event was exactly what the students needed after a year marred by the pandemic.
"COVID disrupted so much throughout the year so we were determined to end the year with fun," Mrs St Baker said.
