Lake Albert took the lead in the first half and was able to hold that until the end of the first 45 minutes.
Coach David Bastinon knew his side would be able to bounce back after falling behind.
"We knew that if we did go down we just had to keep plugging away and hopefully we could come away with a win and it ended up working," he said.
Chaise Donetto scored midway through the second half to bring the side back level, and that was where the score remained until the end of extra time.
Both sides started the shoot-out strong converting their first attempts from the spot and Hanwood were able to take the lead in the second round as they converted while Lake Albert blasted their attempt over the bar.
That miss would prove decisive as Hanwood maintained their composure to take home the silverware with a 5-4 win on penalties.
Bastinon felt it was well deserved for a side who had performed so well all season.
"They play the best football, and Lake Albert didn't make it easy for us, they made us really work hard for it," he said.
"Everyone worked tirelessly out of their skin, and they got the rewards at the end of the day."
Chaise Donetto was named man of the match in the final, and his coach was full of praise for what has been a great season.
"He has been the standout all year," he said.
"He is one of those kids has that heart but also has the skills and speed to burn."
