The Exies Eagles ran up a total of 147 in 40 overs, with Connor Bock scoring 65 not out, while Bryce Rogers was the next highest scoring batsman with 30 runs before being run out by Coro's Tim Rand.

With a big target set down, Coro moved into the chase and managed to beat the Eagles' target after 27.3 overs.

Coro only lost the one wicket - Mitch Williams-Hedges.

Williams-Hedges was caught by Eagles' Ryan Bock from a delivery by Marc Tucker.

Coro's captain Haydn Pascoe said the team chased the score down pretty "comfortably" in a change for the team.

"We've been pretty sluggish at the start in previous years," Pascoe said.

"It's always good to get a win in the first game."

The Eagles bowling attack tried to keep Coro on a tight leash, however Dean Bennett spent almost two hours at the crease scoring five fours to finish up with a total of 60 runs.

Pascoe, who followed Williams-Hedges into the crease, scored 42 runs before Coro reached a total of 148 to win the game.

"Obviously there's a few cobwebs that we need to blow out, but it's good to get off to a good start," Pascoe said.

"The boys batted pretty well, it's not the easiest to try to bat with a new ball."

Coro took five wickets in 40 overs, with Travers Pickmere caught by Tom McGufficke, Phil Burge bowled by Jake Rand, James Roche was bowled by Ben Signor, Tucker was stumped by McGufficke.

The last of Eagles' wickets to fall was Rogers who was run out by Tim Rand.

While Coro was able to match the Eagles' total Pascoe said some extra work would be needed to find improvements in the field.

"With the bowling and field there's a few things that we need to work on, but that's part and parcel of the first game."

Next weekend, Coro Club will play Ex-Servicemen's Club Diggers at Exies Oval number one.

The Eagles meanwhile will play the Leagues Club Panthers at Westend Oval.
