On Saturday the 2020-2021 season begins with first grade games at Exies Oval, and Coro captain Haydn Pascoe was keen to prove their winning credentials.

"We were into the grand final, but finished at the top of the ladder," Pascoe said.

"It was a pretty mellow felling, it wasn't the same as being there on the day and winning it.

"It would be nice to do it again and go back to back."

Pascoe said the numbers at training had been good and there was a lot of excitement about the season.

"Everyone is pretty keen after not doing much during winter," he said.

Coro will field a similar team to last year however Pascoe expected a few new players to come through the club's grades.

Pascoe said it be unique season in Griffith as both ovals at Exies had been spared the usual winter football wear and tear.

"We've had a full 12 months to prepare for cricket so it should be a good pitch," he said.

"Generally we get no grass cover on it because of footy season, I haven't seen it this great ever and it's going to look after the ball a little bit more."

Bowlers will have to adapt quickly as new pandemic rules mean the ball can only be dry shined.

"It's really interesting, the natural instinct is to shine the ball with whatever is available, saliva or sweat," Pascoe said.

"A lot of bowlers rely on having a swing, and we're not expecting the ball to do much especially in the first 10 overs."

Coro Club will play Exies Eagles at Exies Oval number two from 1pm on Saturday.
