The Bureau of Meteorology has issued the warning for Friday and Saturday, predicting cold temperatures, rain and showers with the possibility of strong westerly winds.
Areas likely to be affected include the Riverina, Hunter, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains, Australian Capital Territory Mid North Coast, South Coast, North West Slopes and Plains and Lower Western forecast districts.
By lunch time Friday, the mercury had only climbed to 7.7 degrees at Griffith and 8 degrees at Leeton with persistent showers in both towns.
The BOM warns there is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to the conditions over coming days.
