At last night's meeting of Griffith City Council, Simon Croce was elected as the city's new Deputy Mayor, taking over from long serving councillor Doug Curran, who has held the position of deputy for a total of five years.

The contest was close with the vote coming down to five all, and was eventually decided by drawing a name out of a hat.
While COVID-19 has caused a postponement of a ballot for Griffith City Council's Mayor and Councillors, the position of Deputy Mayor needed to be voted on last night.
Cr Curran told the Area News yesterday he would be happy to serve another year as deputy but would also relish continuing on as a councillor.
"It's definitely something I've enjoyed, but there may be a mood to see some change, to see a bit of variety. I wouldn't take it personally," he said.
