Heading into the round, Griffith FC were sitting six points behind the top of the table Belconnen United with three rounds remaining.
Belconnen played an early game against fifth-placed Gungahlin at home, and they were surprised with the visitors taking a 4-1 victory to hand the Belconnen only their second defeat of the season.
The Griffith FC side is still yet to taste defeat this season but have surrendered points three times with draws this season so needed to make sure they picked up the three points from their clash at O'Connor Park against Brindabella Blues.
Pearson Kasawaya continued his good form in front of goal as he opened the scoring in the ninth minute while he had his second just nine minutes later to see Griffith FC leading 2-0 at the break.
Kasawaya completed his third hat-trick in as many weeks in what has been an outstanding run of goalscoring form to secure the three points for Griffith FC which sees them rise into third and just three points off the top of the table.
It sets up a great match-up next weekend when Griffith FC will once again travel to Cootamundra to take on Belconnen which could play a crucial role in who finished in first position with Griffith FC having a game in hand against Woden Valley.
The Griffith FC team's hopes also hinge on Canberra Croatia dropping points next weekend as they are currently ahead on goal difference.
In the under 13s were able to pick up a point from their clash with Brindabella.
Bethany Piva and Kobe Ellis struck in the first half, but with goals either side of the halftime break, the Blues were able to come away with a 2-2 draw in Cootamundra.
The under 16s were able to come away with a much needed 4-2 victory.
Rueben Donadel scored a hat-trick while Kasawaya also found the back of the next in his second game of the day as they picked up their actual win since the start of August and have climbed into fifth position.
