A total of 12 students will brave a new look as part of the selfless gesture, wanting to make a difference for fellow classmates suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

School captain and event organiser, Rebecca Groat, says the decision to shave came as a no-brainer.

"There are multiple students within our school that have needed the financial and emotional support of this charity," Ms Groat said.

"We made it our mission to all come together and do what was right."

The group of Murrumbidgee teenagers have already seen incredible support from the community, with their initiative raising over $5,500.

Yenda Producers, Casella Wines, Dobija Print World and Solar Mad have been among the biggest contributors, with many students visiting the local businesses to say thank you.

"It's really brought the whole school together," Ms Groat said.

"At the end of the day yeah we're losing our hair, but it'll grow back.

"What really matters is that we're here to support the country kids who need it."

The Student Representative Council came up with idea and the students ran with it, itching to play their part in lending a helping hand.

Murrumbidgee Regional High School originally set themselves a target of $3,000 but managed to achieve it briefly after the startup began.

Principal Peter King will be shaving alongside the students on September 22, and wanted to commend them for their selfless spirit.

"I really want to acknowledge the hard work of year 12 in this fundraising effort," Mr King said.

"A lot of people say that it's been a difficult year for year 12 and it has been, but for them to be actually thinking of other people and raising money for those who need it, it's a great tribute to them and I'm very proud of them for their generosity and community spirit."
