The events were given the green light by NSW Government, and will take place in November with strict social distancing guidelines in place.
Murrumbidgee Regional High School year 12 captains, Matthew Hutchinson, Rebecca Groat, Ellie Taipaleti and Lachlan Cirillo spoke to The Area News about the changes.
"I'm excited because I didn't think we'd actually get one," Ellie Taipaleti said.
"It might not be as good as it could be, but that's okay, we're all still excited."
"It will be good to celebrate one last time with all of our peers, it's a lot better than not getting to have one at all," Lachlan Cirillo added.
Schools across NSW will receive the COVID-19 safety plan for year 12 graduations and formals by September 11.
The ceremonies will take place after the completion of HSC exams to reduce the risk of COVID-19 impacting on tests or preparations.
"Graduation is a big well done to everyone, but it's also a chance for us to say a massive thank you to all of our teachers and year advisors who have been there through everything," Rebecca Groat said.
"They're our year advisors and we honestly couldn't thank them enough. Through COVID, the merging of the schools and everything else we've been through, they've been our rock."
Students and teachers alike have shown incredible resilience during the pandemic, adapting to the challenges of remote learning during unprecedented times.
"I think given the circumstances our year advisors have been really good in supporting us," Matthew Hutchinson said.
"They've been there for our every need which has been great, and I think the least we could do is say thank you."
NSW Government will also provide safety guides to students wanting to participate in schoolies under the current restrictions and health advice.
Any year 12 student requiring a COVID-19 test should tell their GP they are currently doing their HSC. This will ensure their test results are prioritised, minimising any disruption to their schooling.
