The intersection has been partially closed since May to allow for a new bridge over Main Drain J, with cars diverted through Centofanti Road and trucks diverted through Yenda.
The section of road between Oakes Road and Mackay Avenue will be widened as part of the intersection upgrade.
A new surface for the road will also be built.
All vehicles using Kurrajong Road will be detoured through Oakes Road and Battista Street.
Roads and Maritime Services estimates the work will be completed by Friday, September 25 - weather permitting. Both Kurrajong Avenue and Irrigation Way will be re-opened to traffic.
Further work planned for the intersection includes widening of approaches to the intersection, laying a new road surface on Mackay Avenue and the installation of traffic lights.
Work on the intersection upgrade is expected to be completed near the end 2020.
