This week, a 60 tonne crane was used to place a new building in the village which will be used for events including birthdays and other celebrations.

It was no mean feat with the new building being held metres from existing buildings and garages.

Putting the communal room into the retirement village is a project of the Yenda Inner Wheel club.

The club received a bequest and have used to provide a new facility for the residents of the retirement village.

Inner Wheel club member Edna Gyles, one of the members helping guide the project, said retirement village residents would often celebrate each other's birthdays out the front of their homes.

However, that's set to change very soon.

"It will enhance the lifestyle for Yenda Retirement Village residents," Mrs Gyles said.

Mrs Gyles said the project it had taken around 18 months from when the club decided on their plane to build the new community centre and Inner Wheel members were excited to see the project reach its closing stages.

Coleambally's Colybuilt constructed the 12 metre by 5.3 metre room which has a toilet for people with a disability. Leeton's Guildfords Transport and MIA Cranes helped bring the building to Yenda and put it into place.

Mrs Gyles said the club had engaged local tradesmen to complete the final stage of the project including connecting water, electricity and an access ramp.

An official opening is being planned.
