The Griffith side has made a flying start to life in their new competition, but after conceding a couple of soft goals at the back end of the last game with Canberra White Eagles and coach, Luke Santolin knows there are improvements to be made.

"I don't know if it was defensive issues I think it was just mistakes in isolation," he said.

"We got beaten in the air at the back post and two or three times where we could have blocked the cross from coming in, and the chance would have been nullified in the first place.

"Shape is ok, but I just think lapses in concentration are the bigger issue. We just need to cancel them out."

Queanbeyan City will play on Wednesday night as a catch up to their washed-out game against ANU FC, but Santolin doesn't feel the short turnaround will aid his side at all.

"If anything playing more games you can get momentum especially if they get another win they will be riding high into Sunday's match," he said.

"We wouldn't see it as a problem if it was us and it will be a pretty level playing field."

The injury list isn't getting any shorter for the Yoogali side with Andrew Keady ruled out indefinably, Steve Crombie is still around a week away from a return while Andrew Vitucci is still in doubt but has resumed light training.

"A couple of people out for two or three weeks and all of a sudden you may have a numbers problem," he said.

"We have a good young squad, and I think we will be able to cope with the issues. I think we are just as focused on getting a result in 23s this week, so it is going to be a big club effort."

The 23s will be looking to regain some confidence after a couple of losses after an opening-round win, but Santolin doesn't feel they are too far away from making the crucial breakthrough.

"The performances have been there I think they just need to be a little bit more clinical in front of goal and I think they have lacked a bit of leadership at times when the momentum shifted in the game as a young side they haven't coped with that," he said,

"They are creating chances left right and centre, and it is only a matter of time before it clicks.

"When the older sides put the pressure on they are able to execute, but for all of our chances, we are struggling to put teams away.

"It's all part of growing and evolving, and I think the average age of our team on the weekend was 19 or 20."
