In the last month, Victoria surprised everyone with the speed of COVID-19 infections in pockets of Melbourne and the state. So, to recap:
COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.
Most people who fall sick with COVID-19 will experience mild to moderate symptoms and recover however, it is highly contagious. So, its hugely important to follow advice.
You can be infected by breathing in the virus if you are within close proximity of someone who has COVID-19, or by touching a contaminated surface and then your eyes, nose or mouth.
Therefore, if you know anyone who may be in or visited 'precarious' areas of possible virus spots pass on the message to:
- Be informed - there are many places to get information in your own language by clicking on links, such as SBS website, Multicultural NSW, NSW Health, Multicultural Council of Griffith Facebook page. If in doubt don't hesitate to ask.
- Be prepared - in some parts of the state, face masks are either required or recommended, so have some on hand - try the ones recommended by the health authorities and of course sanitisers.
- Be smart - stay informed but don't panic. Get accurate information, not hear say.
- Be ready to fight the COVID-19, however, keep yourselves calm and informed so that anxiety doesn't stop you from living your life.
