The home side found the back of the net as Daniel Johnson found the back of the net for the eighth time this season when he converted from the penalty spot while Michael Cimador popped up to score from a corner.
Patrick Hislop scored the two goals for Young to see them able to pick up a point from their trip to Hanwood.
Coach Anthony Agresta felt the result was probably a fair reflection on the game.
"They played pretty well, and I don't think either team deserved to lose," he said.
"I think a point today was probably a fair result."
The Hanwood side had a couple of chances late in the game while at the other end if not for a couple of key interventions from Demetrio Torino, Young could have come away with the three points.
Agresta paid credit to the way Young stuck to their plan, and they were able to score two goals directly from hitting Hanwood on the counter.
"You could notice pretty much from kick-off that they came with a plan to sit back and let us have the ball and look for a mistake and a turnover and hit us on the break and pretty much both goals were that," he said.
"First goal we let the ball bounce at the back, and they were able to capitalise.
"The second one they went from the back to the front and those sort of things shouldn't happen, but we learn from this."
Agresta probably wasn't as patient as they needed to be to break the gameplan from the Young side.
"I said to them at halftime that we just had to be patient," he said.
" When teams come with a bit of a plan to shut you down, you have to be patient because gaps will open up, and chances will happen.
"I just don't think we were patient enough today and turned over the ball a lot which probably didn't help us either."
Hanwood was able to give another two youngsters a chance to play in first grade with Chaise Donetto and Antonio DeMarco the final 10 minutes of the game while they will be waiting on an update on the fitness of Daniel Rogato who came off with a hamstring complaint.
