The rejection stemmed from the extra traffic that the facility would attract to the Macedone Road and Irrigation Way intersection, which would create unnecessary public risk at the railway crossing.

The centre would have been located at 18 Camellia Court, and could add anywhere from 130 to 200 car movements on the road when in operation.

Councillor Simon Croce, who moved the motion to refuse, said he couldn't approve the application in good conscience.

"The problem is with traffic at Macedone Road intersection," Cr Croce said.

"Intersection traffic has increased over time, dumping 130 to 200 extra movements is a recipe for disaster.

"My conscience won't let me allow it to be approved."

The facility was proposed to have 31 car parking spaces on site and one way traffic movement to reduce conflict within the car park.

Also proposed was associated landscaping, business identification signage and stormwater detention measures.

Councillor Brian Simpson acknowledged the city needs more childcare, but remained concerned about the extra traffic and higher volumes of sewage in that part of the city.

"I urge developers to look at other areas in Griffith," Cr Simpson said.

A number of other issues were raised in the submissions including traffic generation, hours of operation, safety for residents, pedestrians and road users, car parking, on-site stormwater detention and acoustic implications to and from the development.
