Griffith City Council's tourism team has launched a postcard campaign encouraging locals to write their friends and families a postcard asking them to consider coming to Griffith, as part of a long-term campaign aiming to keep the region in people's minds.
More than 10,000 postcards will be distributed to letterboxes as well as local businesses in the next week and council's tourism manager Mirella Guidolin said the aim is to "get Griffith on everyone's fridges" and encourage them to make the trip to the city as soon as they are safe and able to.
"Tourism dollars come into town through people shopping at the service station,. going to fill their script at the chemist, going to the local supermarket ... any economic injection into Griffith through a visiting friend or relative or any visitor is invaluable," Ms Guidolin said.
"At the moment with everything happening, people haven't been coming to visit their family and friends in a while ...we thought it was a perfect opportunity and what better way than getting the local community behind it.
"Especially for kids these days - everyone's on their mobile - [it allows them] to get out a pen and write nana or pop a postcard ... it might not be they come to visit in the next six months, but it could be in 12 months time."
The postcard shows off some of the most beloved sights around the city - from Banna Avenue and Scenic Hill to even showcasing the city's wide range of food and drink - and Ms Guidolin said the campaign aims to get locals talking to their loved ones about what makes Griffith great.
"Most people are really proud of Griffith and living in Griffith and we've got a lot to offer and I hope our locals really get behind it and support it," Ms Guidolin said.
"We have plenty to offer visitors escaping the busy cities ... something as simple as a Bertoldo's sausage roll or a cannoli or one of our many restaurants, shopping, open spaces ... we really encourage the community to get behind it."
