It is being funded under the NSW Fixing Country Roads Program.
It was something motorists of all vehicles had been calling for for some time, but particularly those behind the wheel of large trucks and heavy movers.
The road is home to the Southern Cotton gin, meaning it is used frequently by heavy vehicles.
"This project will result in newer, safer, sustainable and more productive freight movements across the bridge," Leeton Shire Council's operations director Peter Keane said.
"The new bridge will enable access for up to PBS level 3A higher mass limit vehicles, which is a new rating of freight efficient heavy vehicles in Australia.

MR 539 road access continues to remain open to all traffic.
Completion of the new bridge is scheduled for October.
