This weekend the side will travel to Canberra to take on Brindabella Blues, and coach Luke Santolin said his side is pumped to be getting on the field.
"The suspense has been killing us, but it looks like we finally might be able to kick a ball," he said.
"We were worried that that could cause players to head in another direction but if anything it has made us more hungry and the boys just can't wait to get out there."
The club has been putting in the hard yards in recent weeks with intraclub trial games over the past three Saturday's, and Santolin is pleased with how the side is shaping up.
"The first couple were good without hitting the levels but the weekend just gone we actually had a referee (Joel Scarfo), and finally we had a game with the spice that we needed," he said.
"The boys were bussing after it, and it was a tight match, and we have a lot to be positive about."
Santolin was also pleased with how the new signings had settled into the club, but they look like they will be without Danny Roche who is still awaiting clearance.
The first-grade side isn't the only Yoogali side who will be in action this weekend with the under 23s taking to the park, and the Yoogali coach is pleased with the team they have assembled.
"We are really pleased with the depth," he said.
"The under 23s group is a positive group with every reason to believe also do something special in our first year in Canberra."
The first-grade side will be heading in almost full strength, but Santolin knows his team can adapt if there was an issue to arise.
"We have our two or three contingency plans in place, but the great thing is that within our squad there are the utility players that can shift and play in different spots," he said.
"I'm confident that whichever eleven we put on the park will be able to put our best foot forward."
There was a cloud hanging over forward Joe Preece who was carrying a shoulder injury, but Santolin believed that once the game got underway, there would be nothing stopping him from taking to the field.
"I think the adrenaline on game day will mean that we see the best of Joe Preece," he said.
"He is ready again to have one of his best seasons, and I have been pleased with his attitude. I don't think the injury is going to hassle him too much."
Santolin also pointed out a couple of other players to watch out for.
"Andrew Vitucci is our calming presence in midfield. We need him to display all of his leadership qualities," he said.
"Mitch Bagiante, who has scored a lot of goals in the local competition know needs to reinvent himself and deal with the different challenges week to week, but we know he has it in him.
"Finally we will be looking for a big season from Grant Davidson at centre-back who we all know the sort of experience he brings to the squad."
The side will be taking every precaution necessary as it makes it journey to Canberra to ensure they are as COVID-safe as possible.
The club will be temperature checking everyone before travelling, providing hand sanitiser for use as they enter and leave the bus, the will be minimal stops along the way to prevent popular travel points such as Yass.
"These measures are to protect not only our players and officials but also the wider Griffith community," a statement from the club read.
There is still one hurdle the club may have to overcome with the ACT Public Health Order hanging in the balance. As it stands the game may not go ahead with an announcement is expected on Thursday afternoon.
