A recent report released by the Department of Primary Industries Fisheries has highlighted what caused the mass fish kill at the lake in late May, and how the water could be better managed in future.
Secretary of the Griffith Sailing Club, David Martin, is eager to begin the new season and hopes new members will climb aboard this year.
"Hopefully the efforts of Griffith City Council will improve the water quality and allow us to return to Lake Wyangan sailing," Mr Martin said.
"But ultimately with the purchase of the rubber ducky, we now have the ability to be a bit more mobile.
"If water quality and levels at Lake Caregelligo and travelling restrictions in respect to COVID-19 allow it, we'll start having weekly or monthly sailing events out there which is really good."
Thanks to a $4,086 grant from the Office of Sport, Griffith Sailing Club recently purchased a 4.3 metre rubber dinghy with an outboard motor, allowing events at the lake to get underway, pending water quality approval.
If water quality concerns do arise, the new boat will allow for events to be relocated to Lake Cargelligo, as the dinghy is easily transportable.
The vessel will be used for rescue and coaching purposes, adding versatility and breathing new life into a previously concerned club.
"The health and wellbeing of our members, whether you're a sailor, paddler or rower, remains at the forefront of what we're doing," Mr Martin said.
"Our advice to members is that if the water quality's bad, we won't be using the water."
In addition to existing members, the team at Griffith Sailing Club are also encouraging new members to have an experience out on the water.
"People think it's an expensive sport to get into, but there's a number of sailing boats that sit idle," Mr Martin explained.
"When we can sail, we can facilitate a boat for someone to sail on and they can use that as their own boat.
"People not having a boat shouldn't be a barrier in coming out and wanting to sail."
