Griffith City Council offers a $5000 reward for information which will result in the successful prosecution of a person who is responsible for damaging council property via vandalism or graffiti and has put the call out for information after concrete along Stage 2 of the Yambil Street development was vandalised.
Names were scraped into drying concrete at the McCook car park entrance along the street on July 1, forcing council to tear out the section and re-add concrete at an estimated cost of $6000.
Griffith mayor John Dal Broi said the vandalism was "very, very disappointing" and the decision to replace the concrete needed to be made due to the location and status of the project.
"If it was on a farm shed you'd say - oh yeah, so what - but in that position we just can't leave it like that," Councillor Dal Broi said.
"The council is working very hard to provide assets and facilities and infrastructure for the whole of the community and then to have some idiots do that is not only costly and disheartening.
"Also for the tradespeople who are very good and very professional - they take a lot of pride in their work and then turn up in the morning to find that sort of damage - it's just pure vandalism."

However, Cr Dal Broi defended the use of a reward to help gather information about the culprits and said while police have been informed, the community needs to speak up and provide information when they spot vandalism in the city.
"We need the community's help to catch some of these horrible people," Cr Dal Broi said.
"What we've got to look at is if somebody is found and they're found guilty, they'll be out there in the community, they'll be named and shamed.
"We value the community's input if they can help us, and the five thousand is one way of saying thank you very much."
