Banna Avenue, Yambil Street and Olympic Street will receive new cameras which link back to the city's police station as a result of the funding, which stems from the federal government's Safer Communities Fund.
Murrumbidgee Police District's Acting Superintendent John Wadsworth said officers will support any measures taken to make the community a safer place.
"CCTV cameras are likely to be a deterrent to any poor behaviour in these areas and we support any measures such as this that deters would-be criminal activity," Acting Superintendent Wadsworth said.
"We would still encourage all members of the community - if you see something, say something."
"We rely on the community to be our eyes and ears, and combining this with technology puts us in a better position to prevent, disrupt and target crime in our community."

The funding was announced by Member for Farrer Sussan Ley, who said the use of CCTV cameras is key to improving the feeling of safety within the local community.
"Closed-circuit television is a key tool in curbing damage to valuable city equipment, landmarks and vegetation," Ms Ley said.
"Investment in security infrastructure at local crime hot-spots is proven to reduce fear of crime and contribute to greater community safety and resilience and also supports the invaluable work already being done by our local police."
Griffith mayor John Dal Broi welcomed the announcement and said the funding will also allow for the construction of six overhead security lights.
"Safety and security is a concern for our residents and I am pleased that we are able to provide increased surveillance in the CBD," Councillor Dal Broi said.
