The Australian Man Cave Support Group opened a Griffith chapter on June 21, looking to bring men together once a month to discuss mental health in a safe space and create a support network between men in the region who may be struggling with their mental health.

The Griffith group is the second official chapter of the organisation, with plans to expand to Canberra in the coming weeks.

Griffith has seen a number of suicides over the past twelve months, with calls for action to curb the suicide rate in the region.

One of the Man Cave Support Group founders Lou Greco said the organisation aims to provide men a place to release in a space free from judgment and heavy on trust and support.

"We do not promise to solve all of your issues but we promise to not let you face them alone," Mr Greco said.

"The main thing is to get these people coming back ... we give a platform for men to vent - we aren't professional therapists but it is more mates helping mates."

Mr Greco said the organisation was spurred to create a chapter in Griffith after being contacted regarding a "spate" of suicides in the region.

"Earlier this year I received two phone calls in one day [about suicides in Griffith]," Mr Greco said.

"The biggest killer of men between the ages of 14 and 44 is suicide ... my second home has reached out for help and we've answered."

The first meeting - held at the Lake Wyangan recreational park on June 21 - saw 40 people attend.

"Every single person there had been touched by suicide," Mr Greco said.

"In the two and a half years we've been doing it, it was the first time we've had so many people connected.

"There were fathers and uncles [of those who had died] there, which was tough but shows strength [to attend]."

The group plans to meet monthly initially, with plans to hold a barbecue in Barellan in October, while the organisation is also planning to 'break the ice' on suicide awareness by planning a National Gelato Appreciation Day on the third Sunday of November.
