When the night is long, and the day is short the Feral Joggers hold their annual Solstice Cup. This year with Covid-19 lurking about the Solstice Cup had to be a virtual run, meaning any time from Saturday 20th morning to Sunday 21st evening Feral's could complete their course.
David Heffer's name will appear on the cup for the fourth time. Heffer was a joint winner in the inaugural 2007 Solstice Cup, again a joint winner in 2008 and winner in his own right for 2012 and 2020. Derek Goullet was second and Lachlan Date third.
Karin Penninga was the first woman home closely followed by Teresa Burgess and Bronwyn Jones. In the junior competition Digby Jones was first followed by Nate Mingay and Ruby Kenny. All up 63 seniors and 10 juniors ventured out.
In this event participants run varying distances depending on their weekly handicap. Aiden Hill recorded the fastest time running 7.6km at an incredible rate of 3min 48 seconds per km. Event winner David Heffer only had to run 5.8km, and this he did at a rate of 4m47s/km.
Next week the Feral's begin the Surfer competition on a new track designed by Allan Jones. The first 4 weeks of this competition will be virtual runs, meaning Feral's can venture out any time between Monday morning and Sunday afternoon. The Feral committee will review the situation at its July meeting.
