The 3.5km short course competition went down to the wire, only three points separating Angus Gunn and Cooper Savage before the final run, but a strong performance from Savage in the final run saw him take the lead and win the competition with 259 points. Angus Gunn finished with 251 points, ahead of his sister Louise in third place with 224 point.
Readers might wonder how the Feral Joggers were able run a 9-week competition while most other sports were shut down due to Coronavirus. In normal times the Feral's muster at the green water tower at 5:30pm Daylight Saving Time and 4:30pm Eastern Standard Time. Initially Covid-19 caused the Club to cancel the annual Flexible Solutions Bacchus on the Lake and race 8 and 9 of the Bacchus competition, but then the Feral's chose a virtual competition for the Winter course.
Club members were able to run the Winter course any time between Monday morning and Sunday evening, with times sent into the Race Director who published the result on the Feral Webpage. Surprisingly around 90 Feral's participated each week.
Aidan Fattore covered the 6.2km course in 23min 02sec, Aidan Hill 23min 07sec and Chris Fuchs 23min 21sec. Seems hardly worth going out for that short period. Fastest women were Eliza Star 27min 36 sec, Mia Stockwell 28min 40 sec and Fiona Fattore 29min 43sec.
Those who walk or ride bikes on the "Hill" will notice that the Feral's have been busy repairing some of the badly eroded running tracks. Griffith City Council and Milbrae Business Group have been generous in donating gravel for the repair work and Tim Mitchell from Tim Mitchell Excavations donated bobcat time in another track upgrade.
The Surfer competition commences on the 27th of June. The first 4 runs will be virtual runs, then depending on what restrictions are in place, the Feral's may return to normal weekly runs. The club is also hoping, pending regulation at the time, to run the Half On The Hill, half marathon on August 9th.
The Feral Jogger's welcomes new membership. People wanting to join our virtual runs can google Griffith Feral Joggers and click onto the membership button.
