Volunteers have been planning a centenary reunion since July 2019.
However, following an emergency committee meeting last week, the event set for the weekend of August 8 and 9 has been postponed due to strict social distancing rules.
"It was decided at this meeting we had no option but to postpone the reunion event," reunion committee chairman Donald Matheson said.
"I cannot stress enough that this is only a postponement, the committee is well down the track in regards to arranging the logistics of the event and are totally committed to it proceeding, as soon as it is possible, as the social distancing rules are relaxed," he said.
"At this point in time with the uncertainty that Group 20 will proceed this season, so we will be looking at a date early in the 2021 season to have the reunion.
"Once the committee has clear vision around the commencement timeline on the new football season, we will book a date and release the program for the reunion to the general public."
Mr Matheson said people who had paid for tickets would be receiving a refund from the club.

However, he emphasised that the event was still set to go ahead and the delay would mean more time to get the word out to former club members.
"It will give us more time to spread the word in regards to the fact the reunion is occurring, so please make sure to spread the word to every member of the Griffith Black and Whites family," he said.
"I would like to the thank the Griffith Leagues Club for its ongoing commitment to the reunion project, as well as the committee members and volunteers involved.
"Together we will make sure this event happens."
