The mayor of the Carrathool Shire has urged the community to follow the regulations and advice handed down by the federal and state governments to help reduce the impact of coronavirus.

According to the Murrumbidgee Local Health District, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Carrathool Shire - which takes in Hillston, Goolgowi, Merriwagga, Rankins Springs and Carrathool - as of 8am on April 1.
The shire's mayor Darryl Jardine has said the community needs to do their part to help keep the area running while staying safe and following the correct procedures.
"In our area we have people from many nationalities all contributing to our economy," Councillor Jardine said.
"We still need to maintain our economic base as well as we can while taking precautions, to ensure our sustainability when this coronavirus has run its course.
"We are all in this together please look after each other while maintaining appropriate safeguards."
Cr Jardine said for council it has "generally been business as usual" as essential services such as water, sewerage, transport and communication continue, but council has had to close caravan parks, swimming pools, playgrounds and skate parks to stay in line with federal government regulations.
"Council and other agencies are working together to minimise any potential exposure within our community," Cr Jardine said.
"Council staff are following approved guidelines while carrying out their function.
"Information provided to council by the national cabinet is that while the number of infections is rising, the virus curve is slowing - social distancing measures are slowing the spread of the virus while allowing Australia to protect lives and still function."

With those over the age of 70 years or living with an existing health condition considered the most vulnerable to COVID-19, Cr Jardine recommended they take additional care and try to limit contact with others as much as possible and avoid outside travel.
"I am pleased with how the council staff have remained calm and carried out their duties during these times," Cr Jardine said.
"Our community can also congratulate itself for the support it has shown to each other and for the composed manner in which we have adjusted our daily routine."
