A statement from the health district released on Thursday morning said there are now 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the health district as of 8pm on March 25, with one new case found in Wagga Wagga and two cases found in the Greater Hume local government area.

"All cases notified were diagnosed after travelling overseas or being in contact with a confirmed case," the statement from MLHD read.

"All patients have experienced mild to moderate symptoms and are in self-isolation to ensure they do not transmit the virus.

"They are being managed at home with the support of their GP and a daily check up with local health services."

MLHD have begun the process known as contact tracing to determine the movements of those who have been confirmed with a case to identify close contacts.

A close contact is regarded as someone who has been face-to-face with the infectious person for at least 15 minutes or has been in the same closed space for at least two hours with a confirmed case during the time they were infectious.

Where individuals are identified as close contacts, MLHD's Public Health Unit tells the contacts they must isolate themselves for 14 days after they were last in contact with the case, with a daily check-up process set up to monitor their health via SMS.

If not all contacts can be identified after a person has spent time in a particular location an alert would be issued to warn people who may have been in that location at the same time as the case.

The time between when a person is exposed to the virus and when symptoms first appear is typically five to six days, although it may range from two to 14 days.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, sore throat and dry cough.

Members of the public are advised to minimise travel, increase personal awareness around hand hygiene and practice social distancing.

Those who are concerned they may have contracted the disease are advised to call HealthDirect on 1800 022 222 or the Murrumbidgee COVID-19 Hotline on 1800 831 099, where patients will be triaged and if testing is warranted, will be booked into an appointment based on location or contact your GP to arrange an appointment, letting them know in advance if you have symptoms.
