But thanks to a new program delivered by the Solar Professionals, 89 Aboriginal Housing homes in Griffith and two in Yenda will see a drop in energy prices.

The Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) Solar Project is being delivered throughout the Riverina and Central West, providing a significant social impact to Indigenous communities.

Solar systems are saving these residents up to 30 and 40 per cent on their power bills.

10 Indigenous workers were employed during the delivery of this project, with three forming part of the Griffith and Yenda team.

They got a six-unit training project, up to 14 weeks paid work experience with an experienced team and Tool Kit and Safety Gear for those workers to keep.

Business Development Officer for Summit Employment and Training Luke Penrith helped recruit and train the new workforce, and believes this is a huge opportunity.

"It's important Aboriginal people build infrastructure for Aboriginal communities. Clean energy also aligns with Indigenous values and our customs for looking after the environment," said Mr Penrith.

Education and support are also given to manage tenants' energy bills, empowering families and communities through long-term employment.

"Solar has proved to be the most effective way to help the most vulnerable people in our communities by saving money on their electricity bills," an AHO spokeswoman explained.

The solar installations assist tenants to increase home comfort, reduce financial stress, which improves housing outcomes for Aboriginal families.

"Over recent years, programs aiming to reduce energy bill pressure for disadvantaged and vulnerable households have been run in NSW," she said.

"While these programs have had some success, gaps remain especially in relation to Aboriginal Communities where energy bills average at levels far above the state average and disproportionate numbers of residents experience vulnerability.

"The AHO identified that Solar PV systems which give our tenants a direct saving is the best and most cost effective option to assist with ever increasing energy bills, hence the Dubbo Solar Pilot project was commenced."
