It will be a tough test for the Hanwood side this weekend as they take on Capital Football NPL side Belconnen United as they look to get game time into the legs of their players.
"It will be a great test for our boys," coach Anthony Agresta said.
"It will be a good chance to see how the younger boys around the club are going to fit in.
"Results are something you really worry about at this stage it's just about getting some game time because the boys have basically only been trotting around the park since we started."
Agresta will be using their preseason games to test some of the younger players around the club who will be pushing for first-grade places with key players from last season moving on.
"We have lost Nick Kennedy and Stephen Bullen, our keeper," he said.
"Andy (Gamble) did his ACL and had surgery in December, so we aren't sure if he will feature much this season, so we have lost a bit of experience, but it is a great opportunity to give the younger boys around the club the chance to play in the first-grade side."
Despite that loss of experience, Agresta is still confident heading into the season.
"It's still early, and with vintage, it is hard to get a real read on who will be available when the season gets underway," he said.
"Once vintage is finished I think we will be right and we will use the trials games to see where we stand."
The club will have plenty of depth they will be able to call on with the addition of a third-grade men's side coming into play in Wagga, which is an excellent addition according to Agresta.
"That is going to be great for us," he said.
"It gives us some more options and a bit more depth, and it provides the kids around the club a great opportunity. If there is a kid who is good enough for a spot, they will be given the opportunity."
The club has been putting in the work off the park as well to ensure the playing surface is in top shape heading into the season.
The field has been top-dressed, and there are further upgrades coming in the near future.
"We have put in a new seed to help the grass when the weather gets colder and have new goalposts, and there are new dugouts on the way as well," he said.
"We have wanted to do it for a while and after the success of last year and getting into Wagga gave everyone around the club a boost, so we jumped at the chance."
The action will get underway 1pm with the Hanwood reserve grade side in action before the main game gets underway at 3pm.
