If you're handy with a fishing rod then the Riverina Classic begins on Friday and runs through to Sunday. The catch-and-release fishing competition is raising money for Rural Outreach Counselling and there's big prizes for the biggest Murray cod with the record standing at 91 centimetres.

The Coro Club hosts Crooked Crows from 7.30pm on Friday. Ben Ceccato will entertain guests at the Southside Leagues Club's Alpen Terrace from 8.30pm on Friday, which will be followed by Side Effect at 8.30pm on Saturday. Hotel Victoria will host Trouserpants from 8.30pm on Saturday. DJ Bones will perform at the Area Hotel from 10pm on Saturday. Sunday sessions start at the Southside Leagues Club from 2.30pm with DJ Rosario performing.

Exhibition captures the expressive to hyper-realistic
The Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award, Grafton's premiere art prize, has opened for exhibition at Griffith Regional Gallery. The biennel art prize features drawings covering hyper-realism to expressive and poetic imagery. The JADA will be on exhibition until February 16.

Griffith Soroptimists will host a classic Australian sausage sizzle to welcome city's overseas workers. The grill will be fired up at midday on Sunday at City Park, weather permitting.

Griffith Rotary's markets open from 7am until midday on Sunday. Stallholders will have everything from fruit and veg to home-made craft.

Communal art project to take centre stage
Residents are being invited to contribute to a community art project to be exhibited at A Day in the Orchard. The project is led by Jess Forster and Kristy-lee Agresta from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday at Griffith Regional Art Gallery. Then creation continues every Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 2pm until March.

If you've ever wanted to see how wine has traditionally been made from picking the fruit to stomping the grapes, now's the season for it.
