Harmony Day celebrates Australia's cultural diversity.
It's about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. More information to come on what is planned for this year's celebration.
The new Griffith Cemetery management plan has finally been approved by City Council and thank you to the multicultural community for their invaluable input for a fairer and more inclusive document.
It's been a busy time for the Multicultural Council committee and volunteers and it's been a privilege to be able to assist people in need living in our community.
Some of the issues that people have needed help with are: immigration-related, JP service, housing and rental, business matters, sponsorship letters, venue hire assistance, Youth Conference applications, etc.
These issues are ongoing and once again demonstrate the importance of setting up a Multicultural Resource and Information Centre in Griffith with a proper assistance service.
Two young people from our diverse community were successful with their application for a scholarship to attend the Advancing Community Cohesion Conference - the way forward, hosted by the Western Sydney University.
Attending the conference will benefit those attending by engaging with, and learning from, both international and national speakers on important issues relating to social cohesion and aims to achieve practical outcomes and contribute to policies and strategies.
Hopefully, these conferences will continue and we will endeavour to apply for our youth because progress for better, safer and progressive communities can only happen through learning and understanding.
