The news has been welcomed by Argyle's CEO Wendy Middleton, who is excited to provide four new affordable units to fill the city's need.
At Tuesday night's meeting, council resolved to gift the land on the corner of Wakaden and Crossing Streets.
The residual lot 3 DP1240224, approximately 731sqm, was free after the subdivision and sale of land to Health Infrastructure NSW for the new ambulance station.
Subject to a number of conditions, the land will be used strictly in accordance with the NSW Ministerial Affordable Housing Guidelines 2019/20.
General manager Brett Stonestreet said he was glad that council has taken this constructive if "modest" step, as part of the Griffith Housing Strategy adopted in 2019.
"The land is zoned R1 (General Residential) and is therefore appropriately zoned for the purpose of residential dwellings," Mr Stonestreet said.
This demonstrates council's commitment to taking action towards addressing the shortfall in affordable rental housing stock.

Ms Middleton said they are very happy to be partnering with council, and will further partner with local builders.
"I'd like to congratulate Griffith City Council on their commitment to the Housing Strategy and in particular to low income accommodation," she said.
