Griffith police pulled out all the stops on this day in 2019, launching Operation Drink Drive One to target drink driving in the area.
The operation came after a spate of drink-driving arrests, with five drivers being caught over a period of two days.

Griffith local Dale McCleary drove 650 kilometres on this day in 2019, delivering a truck full of water to the drought-struck town of Brewarrina.
The water came as a godsend for locals, who had been living with empty rain tanks for months.

ALGAL BLOOM AT LAKE WYANGAN
Lake Wyangan was closed for recreational use on this day in 2015, after an outbreak of blue-green algae prompted council intervention.
Livestock owners were also advised to remove stock from the shores of Lake Wyangan (north) where surface scum was visible and blue-green algae was suspected.

SES volunteers were kept busy for hours following a brutal storm on this day in 2015.
The Murrumbidgee SES division received around 85 calls just hours after the storm began.

The well-respected coach said it "broke his heart" to leave, stating he could not give the coaching role the time it required, opting for a floating managerial role instead.
GOSSIP GIRL HITS GRIFFITH
A Facebook group modelled after the popular American television show Gossip Girl was discovered by The Area News on this day in 2010.
The group invited users to submit salacious rumours about young residents, threatening to destroy lives, with the rumours being displayed publicly then linked back to the victims' own profile.
KIDNAPPING PUTS CITY ON EDGE
Griffith police urged local parents to remain calm but cautious after a six-year-old girl was abducted in Wagga on this day in 2010.
The girl was snatched from MacLeay Street at around 11:30am, then returned to the same spot almost two hours later.
