Griffith Local Court has heard how a drink-driver swerved to avoid a kangaroo, skidded for over 65 metres and snapped a pine tree on impact.

This was David Nathan Forsman's fourth drink-driving charge, yet the court heard there was "no escalation" in his behaviour.
"This was at the lower end of the low-range drink-driving," his legal representative Piers Blomfield submitted about the 0.072 reading.
Telling the court he had been "counting his drinks", Mr Blomfield said the 43-year-old self-medicated with alcohol to cope after receiving "anguishing" news.
Magistrate Joy Boulos said there were "too many aggravating features", especially having been jailed before for a high-range charge.

"Nothing is going to stop him unless I take him off the road," she said.
He was convicted, fined $750 and disqualified for four months.
