The ex-national swimmer was born and raised in Griffith, but moved to Grafton 11 years ago when her daughter was born.

When asked by The Area News what motivated her to get back in the water, Jodie said she couldn't miss out on such a charitable opportunity.

"I think it's really important to get behind a good cause," Ms Millar explained.

"It's all for the kids really, to put a smile on their face."

Jodie's 150 kilometre target equates to swimming Bondi to Bronte a staggering 75 times, or crossing the Straight of Gibraltar tenfold.

But the difficulty of her Super Swim has left Ms Millar feeling eager, as she looks to overcome the challenge for a great cause.

"I saw the Starlight challenge on Facebook and at that time I was really getting back into the pool for fitness," she said.

"I'd been out of the pool for over 20 years, so I thought I'd get on board and try to raise some funds for the foundation."

Jodie secured three gold medals and broke the Victorian Allcomers State record for the 200 metre medley back in 1992.

She set a time of 2:33.89, besting the previous record of 12 years by 4.04 seconds.

Jodie's parents are proud of the 10 years she spent swimming competitively, but remain even prouder that she's now using those skills to help raise funds for charity.

Ms Millar wanted to thank her parents for their encouragement, and urged anyone considering the challenge to dive right in.

"I think anybody should really get on board, there's a lot of benefits associated with swimming," she explained.

"Swimming is great for your own physical and mental health."
