The leak in the Family Funland ceiling was caused by a Dora the Explorer doll blocking up a gutter, leading to a buildup of rainwater that ended up leaking into the building.
Griffith Fire and Rescue NSW were called to Family Funland when an automatic fire alarm was triggered, and while firefighters were at the scene a leaky panel in the roof collapsed in on itself.
Cinema staff evacuated visitors from the theatres and the bowling alleys, and shortly afterwards an electrician was called to prevent electric hazards and a plumber was called to unblock the drain and release the water.
Family Funland will be closed until further notice, and the building's owners are arranging for a builder to come and fix the hole in the ceiling.
FRNSW 311 captain Danielle McKay, who was on-site at the time of the collapse, said the cinema had done the right thing by acting quickly and evacuating everyone from the building.
"I'd like to commend the cinema for putting people's safety first and making sure that everyone was out of harm's way," Ms McKay said.
